Leopards’ Kateregga attracts interest from Tanzanian giants Yanga and Simba

AFC Leopards wing dazzler Allan Kateregga is attracting great interest from top Tanzanian clubs Young Africans (Yanga) and Simba SC.

The Ugandan forward, who is currently in Dar es Salaam on duty for his club at the ongoing SportPesa Super Cup, has churned out impressive displays for Ingwe that has left the top two teams in Tanzania drooling for his services.

Kateregga has been a mainstay in a Leopards squad that will clash with bitter rivals Gor Mahia in the final of the tournament on Sunday.

Specifically, it is the 25 year old’s fine displays against Yanga, alongside his calm conversion from the spot during the post-match penalty shootout that has impressed his suitors.

On Friday, the dreadlocked midfielder’s image was splashed all over the Tanzanian media, with reports suggesting that a bidding war between two of Tanzania’s three richest clubs could be in the offing.

CREATIVE PLAYER

“We want him. He fits the bill perfectly for an attacking and creative player that the coach wants. We have spoken to him and he says his contract is expiring, so it will be easier to snap him out,” a Yanga official who spoke off the record, told Bingwa newspaper.

Contacted, Leopards chairman Dan Mule, who is with the club in Tanzania, denied any knowledge of an impending move for the player, even as he refused to discuss his contractual situation.

“I have not spoken to anyone regarding any of my players, and I do not intend to, atleast until we finish what we came to do here, which is to win the title. Discussing that at this point ahead of a big final is a distraction,” Mule told Nairobi News.

At stake for the winners of Sunday’s final at Uhuru Stadium is Sh3 million and a chance to play against English Premier League side Everton.
