Lindi ward fund members’ election nullified

Lindi ward residents will have to stay without a ward development fund committee for a while until a fresh election of members is held.

This is after the election of those gazetted to run of the Lindi ward development fund was nullified in a gazette notice Friday.

The notice issued by G.S Mwakanongo, Executive Member, Finance and Economic Planning nullified the election of seven members held on June 13 2014.

“The elections for the members of the said Lindi Ward shall be held afresh on a date to be notified in accordance with act,” read the gazette notice.

The ward development fund committee had been formed after elections were held and the elected members gazetted.

APPOINTED CRONIES

The members whose election has been notified are; Charles Ogola Abang’a, Maureen Awuor, Leonard Omondi Olal, Bernard Osome, Esther Anyango, Margret Adhiambo and Dolphine Akoth.

Lindi MCA Fredrick Owino Obenge had been accused by residents of appointing his close friends to manage the development fund.

Residents had earlier claimed that different people were elected to manage the fund but the MCA gazzetted his friends.

The ward development fund committees were established through a county Bill in January and were meant to spread development funds across the city more equitably.

Members of County Assembly were only expected to play an oversight role in the fund.
