Lizzie Wanyoike: A responsible mom who didn’t spoil her children despite financial success
The late Lizzie Wanyoike, the visionary founder of Nairobi Institute of Business Studies (NIBS) Technical College, is remembered as a responsible mother who prioritised the upbringing of her children.
Despite being a multimillionaire entrepreneur with financial stability, Madam Lizzie did not spoil her children.
She instilled a foundation of Christian values in their upbringing and did not hesitate to discipline them when they misbehaved.
“Despite her financial stability, she did not spoil her children. She would reprimand them whenever they misbehaved,” stated Mr Allan Njenga, NIBS Administrator and Business Development Manager, while reading the eulogy.

Apart from owning NIBS Technical College, she also founded Emory Hotel in Nairobi County and Lizzie Wanyoike Preparatory Schools in Ruiru, Kiambu County. She also invested in land and real estate.
NIBS has several branches in Nairobi, Kiambu and Kajiado counties.
Madam Lizzie succumbed to Cancer on January 14, 2024, and is being laid to rest today, Tuesday, January 23, 2024, at her late husband’s residence, Josphat Mburu Wanyoike, in Gatanga, Murang’a County.
Mr Wanyoike served as the Gatanga Member of Parliament (MP) between 1992 and 1997.
He passed away in 2018.
The couple, who later divorced, had three children, namely, Wanyoike Mburu, Stella Wanjiru, and Eric Kariuki.
According to the eulogy, Madam Lizzie and her husband took their children to Mombasa for a vacation, showcasing their commitment to family despite their busy schedules.
“Even though she had a very busy schedule, she created time at least once per year to take her children for a vacation.”
Madam Lizzie’s funeral ceremony is currently underway in Gatanga, Murang’a, with former Gatanga MP Mr Peter Kenneth and other political leaders from the region in attendance.
She was born on November 11, 1951, and passed away at the age of 73.
