How I lost 13kg conquering Mt Kilimanjaro

The longest weekend of the year is upon us and everyone is scratching their heads trying to figure out what to do with it.

For Aspen Event Management CEO Caroline Kyule, the answer is simple, climb a mountain. The self declared out door addict, has climbed just about every mountain in Kenya and she recommends it as the ultimate Easter plot. Her greatest achievement however was climbing Mt Kilimanjaro.

“Kili (Kilimanjaro) changed my life,” she says. I lost 13kg during to pre-climb training and mountain sickness. Conquering Kilimanjaro made me evaluate my life and I ended up quoting my job and starting my current business.”

NO JOKE

According Kyule, conquering Mt Kilimanjaro is no joke, several people have died on the long and treacherous trek to the various peaks. On that road to the top, life long memories are created and crucial networks are made.

“I met very good contacts on that trip that have helped me in my business. Outdoor activities are really great they build your character and change your life forever,” she says.

Her experience inspired her to conceptualize Adventure Fest, an event that brings together suppliers who provide outdoor adventure.

“It took me two years to plan for the Kilimanjaro climb, because the people who organize these things are so hard to find,” she explains. “That is why I started this festival, it’s a one stop shop where you can find everything you need for your dream adventure.”
