Love triangle: Woman kills lover who attacked her over cheating claims
A 35-year-old man was stabbed to death by his lover in Ndia, Kirinyaga County, on Sunday night after a quarrel.
Everything seemed well between Francis Mureithi and his girlfriend Edith Muthoni as they spent the evening together at the latter’s kiosk in Mung’etho village..
However, things are said to have taken a turn for the worst at around 8pm when another man came by the kiosk and hugged the woman.
This angered the now deceased farmer and in minutes, an argument escalated into a physical confrontation.
Police reports suggest that the man attacked his girlfriend with a kitchen knife, stabbing her multiple times in the back.
She, however, fought back and overpowered Mureithi and turned the same knife on him. She stabbed him through the heart before running away.
POOL OF BLOOD
Cries for help by the woman had attracted attention from neighbours and relatives who arrived at the scene to find a Mureithi lying in a pool of blood at by roadside. He died within minutes.
“I heard someone screaming near the road so I rushed to check. He was lying on the ground bleeding. He died before we could do anything,” Peter Chomba, a neighbor, said.
The duo had been living together for barely a year after the man separated from his wife with whom he had three children.
However, the cohabitation was marred by wrangles and multiple confrontations some of which, according to relatives, came with death threats.
“They have always been fighting and threatening each other. We have had to intervene with their issues,” Ms Virginia Nyawira, a relative of the deceased said.
In fact, Ms Muthoni had just come back to the house of the deceased two weeks ago after they had separated.
The deceased is also said to have been visiting his estranged wife and children in Sagana, something that did not go well with his new woman.
This, according to neighbours, was a common source of their fights.
Following the knife fight, the woman was rushed to Sagana Hospital for treatment but was caught by irate locals who handed her over to the police.
POLICE CUSTODY
Mwea West Divisional Police commander Samuel Seurey said that the woman was placed in police custody for the killing of her lover.
She, however, was taken back to hospital where police say she was admitted in critical condition.
“From our findings, the two were fighting. The man is the one who attacked the woman first but she took the knife and stabbed him. She is in our custody but currently receiving treatment. She is in critical condition but we are still piecing up information regarding the incident,” the police boss said.
