Luck runs out for suspected gangsters after crime spree across five counties

Detectives on Tuesday night arrested two suspected robbers who have been terrorizing members of the public across five counties, including Nairobi.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) the two suspects have been engaging in criminal activities in Nairobi, Nakuru, Kiambu, Murang’a and Kajiado Counties.

“The first suspect, who has been on the run for the past few days, was arrested along Limuru road as he escaped with his family from the city to his rural home in Dundori, Nyandarua County,” the DCI said in a statement.

The said suspect was arrested after the sleuths intercepted a Mitsubishi Canter of registration number KAM 231J that was ferrying the suspect and other family members.

Police believe Mr Kiarie made the decision to flee from the city after he realised that he had been put on their radar.

“After conducting search in the vehicle, a Czeska pistol serial number B022944 with a magazine loaded with 2 rounds of 9mm ammunitions and a CZ P-07 pistol serial number C626319 with a magazine loaded with 12 rounds of 9mm calibre were recovered,” the DCI said.

Already, the firearms have been linked to various incidents where victims have lost money immediately after making transactions in banks.

Currently, the two suspects are being grilled by the sleuths before they are arraigned in court on Thursday, June 29, 2023.

Meanwhile, police in Mathare have also launched a manhunt for three suspected robbers who on the night of Tuesday, June 27, 2023, allegedly shot dead a M-Pesa attendant before making away with unknown amount of money from her.

The officers investigating the matter have asked members of the public to share information that will lead to the arrest of the trio.
