Fare Thee Well: Mama Lucy Kibaki final journey


Thousands turned up Saturday for former First Lady, Mama Lucy Kibaki’s final send-off in Othaya, Nyeri.

Over 1,000 leaders and dignitaries are attending the mass at Othaya Approved School. The mass is being conducted by Nyeri Archbishop Peter Kairo.

President Uhuru Kenyatta and First Lady Margaret are also attending the burial ceremony. Former Tanzania President Jakaya Kikwete and Deputy President William Ruto are also present.

The body arrived at the Othaya Approved School at 10.43am from Lee Funeral Home.

Former President Mwai Kibaki and his family arrived shortly after.

Cabinet Secretaries present at the ceremony include Joseph Nkaissery (Interior), Raychelle Omamo (Defence) and Dan Kazungu (Mining).

Also present is Speaker of National Assembly Justin Muturi, governors Waithaka Mwangi (Nyandarua), Joshua Irungu (Laikipia), Wycliffe Oparanya (Kakamega), Alfred Mutua (Machakos) and Nyeri Deputy Governor Samuel Wamathai. Othaya MP Mary Wambui is also present.

Former first Lady Mama Ngina Kenyatta arrived at the Othaya Boys ground some minutes to 10 am accompanied by Kiambu Women Representative Ann Nyokabi

Politician Peter Kenneth and United Nations Conference on Trade and Development Secretary-General Dr Mukhisa Kituyi were also among dignitaries who are attending the ceremony.

After the mass, the body will be taken to former President Mwai Kibaki’s Othaya home. Less than 300 guests will then join the family at the burial site.
