Administration Police officers in Tharaka Nithi county have arrested a 23-year-old man for sexually abusing his 16-year-old primary school niece.

Led by area Assistant Chief Mrs Emily Njagi, the policemen raided the man’s home in Mugona Village in Mitheru Maara Sub County at dawn on Saturday morning and found the two in bed.

The two were taken to Ntumu Police Station from where they were escorted to the Chuka General Hospital for medical examination, before the man was locked in the cells to await court charges.

According to the man’s elder brother Kenneth Murithi Nyaga, the suspect, a habitual drunkard, had been cautioned by the local village elder to stop making sexual advances to his niece who lives with her grandmother following the death of her mother several years ago.

Mr Nyaga said his brother had formed a habit of harassing everyone including their elderly and ailing mother every time he got drunk.

Confirming the incident, the Officer Commanding Police Division OCPD in Maara Mr Johnstone Kabusia said police had been informed about the activities of the suspect and had been following him.
