Man arrested on suspicion of killing university student


A 27-year-old man is in police custody after he was arrested on suspicion of killing a university student in Nairobi.

Police on Thursday morning received reports that there was a body lying at the junction of Limuru and Professor Maathai roads.

They later established that the deceased, who had been stabbed in the chest, was a fourth year student from Mt. Kenya University School of Law, Parklands campus.

Preliminary investigation indicated another person’s presence at the crime scene after blood drops were discovered.

Police later received information from MP Shah Hospital that an injured person was seeking treatment for a stab wound on his hand.

Police arrested the suspect at the hospital while the deceased’s body was moved to City Mortuary awaiting autopsy.

In another incident in Kayole, a man was shot on his right leg by police officers who responded to a distress call from a member of public on Wednesday morning.

According to police report, a member of public reported that a suspicious motor vehicle was parked in Kibuku estate, Utawala, 400m near the police base.

On arrival at the scene, police officers requested the occupants of the car to identify themselves but one of them drew a pistol which prompted the officers to shoot him on the right leg.

On quick search, police found a police registered Ceska pistol and a police registration certificate. The man claimed to be a police officer attached to South B depot and that he had come to pick a Safaricom employee within the estate.

Two people who were in the motor vehicle were arrested and while the injured man was rushed to Komarock Modern hospital for treatment.
