A man who consumed beer and cigarettes he could not pay for at a petrol station in Westlands, Nairobi was charged with obtaining credit by false pretenses.

Perminus Nderitu is accused of incurring a debt of Sh1, 860 by consuming drinks and cigarettes at Rubis petrol station in Westlands, Nairobi, while falsely pretending he was in a position to pay for them and failing to honour the payment.

Nderitu went to the shop at the fuel station and ordered a beer and a packet of cigarettes while in the company of another man who also ordered a takeaway beer.

They started drinking after promising that someone was coming to pay their bill.

After some time, Nderitu’s companion ran away leaving him behind.

He was ordered to pay but he could not.

Police officers near the fuel station were called in and arrested him.

Nderitu denied the charges before senior principal magistrate Derrick Kutto of Kibera law courts.

He was released on a bond of Sh20, 000 and an alternative cash bail of Sh10, 000.

The case will be mentioned on March 14.
