A man who allegedly sent an abusive text message to his former girlfriend has been arraigned before a Narok Court charged with misuse of communication equipment.

Patrick Taany Ole Parsaiaah appeared before Narok acting principal magistrate Alex Mbuvi charged that on March 26, this year at unknown place in Narok County, he sent an abusive message to his former girlfriend.

The accused allegedly referred to the complainant as ‘a Koinange girl’, ‘Malaya ya Koinange’ which was interpreted to mean a prostitute among other abusive words.

The Prosecutor said the words were meant to injure the complainant’s reputation and demean her character.

The accused denied the charges and the prosecution opposed his release on bond saying the accused had been harassing the complainant.

“The accused also has an assault case pending before another court where he is alleged to have assaulted the complainant,” the prosecution submitted.

But the court overruled this application saying the prosecution had not proved the allegations of harassment.

“Besides, bail is the constitutional right of the accused,” the magistrate said.

The accused was released on a cash bail of Sh20,000 with the date for the case set for June 22.
