Man denies obtaining title deeds through fraud

A farm manager was on Monday charged with fraudulently registering title deeds of a land parcel belonging to the pilot of Kenya  Airways plane that crashed in Cameroon seven years ago.

Joshua Wangai Kibe was accused of giving false information to register the four-acre piece of land belonging to the late Captain Frank Mbatia Wamwea in Kiserian in his name.

The court heard that on January 3 this year at the Ngong lands office, he obtained 8 title deeds in his name instead of Captain Mbatia’s wife Ms Wanjiru Mbatia.

According to the prosecution documents, Ms Mbatia had contracted Mr Wangai, 60, to assist him in transferring the ownership of the land to her name.

Police accused Mr Wangai of subdividing the land into eight plots and obtaining a title deed for each in his name, an allegation he denied.

The prosecution told the court that police are still investigating the case and asked for four days to interrogate Mr Wangai.

“ Investigations are still on at the Ngong lands office and police are asking for 4 days to keep the accused in their custody. After the 4 days we will have a way forward,” the prosecutor, Chief Inspector Josiah Njeru told the court.

Mr Wangai did not oppose the application and Kibera Principal Magistrate Benard Ochoi ordered he be remanded at the Kiserian police station.

The case will be mentioned on March 28.
