A 23 year old man on Monday hanged himself after failing to raise Sh12,000 for his newborn child to seek  medical treatment at Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) in Eldoret.

The man identified as Benard Kimosop Kanda from Koibaben village, Marakwet West, in Elgeyo Marakwet County, hanged himself after he allegedly failed to raise the said money.

Confirming the incident, Marakwet West OCPD Mathews Mangira said the man hanged himself after disclosing to his father that his wife had given birth prematurely and the newborn needed to get proper care in the nursery at MTRH.

The police boss said the man had initially attempted suicide by taking poison but his relatives managed to take him to hospital and he survived.

The body of the deceased was found dangling on a tree by villagers who informed the police.

The body has been taken to AIC Kapsowar Mission hospital mortuary.
