Man in court for stealing machine gun stand at Embakasi Garrison

By Joseph Ndunda November 10th, 2022 1 min read

A man who stole a general purpose machine gun mounting stand at the Embakasi Garrison in Nairobi has pleaded guilty to theft charges.

Macdonald Wanjohi admitted before the Makadara Law Court that he stole the stand and a Land Cruiser door belonging to the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) – all valued at Sh56,000, at the garrison on November 8, 2022 contrary to section 268 as read with section 275 of the penal code.

Mr Wanjohi was to be charged with an alternative count of handling stolen property contrary to section 322 (2) of the penal code after he was found with the item but the same was dropped after he admitted the main charge.

On the material day, KDF officers manning the garrison heard a commotion inside the compound of highly guarded establishment around 10pm and upon enquiry, they met Wanjohi with the two items.

They arrested him and escorted him to Embakasi Police Station with the stolen items as exhibits.

The accused pleaded guilty to the charges before Principal Magistrate Hellen Okwany. The matter will be mentioned on November 15 when the two items will be presented before the court as exhibits before Wanjohi is sentenced.
