Kibera man in court over Sh300 ‘spat’

A man who allegedly roughed up and injured his friend after he was asked to pay a Sh300 debt was charged with assaulting and causing him actual bodily injuries.

At Kibera law courts, Augustine Tianda is accused of beating up and inflicting injuries to Silas Kegode in Lindi area of Kibera sub county, Nairobi.

The incident reportedly happened in May 19, 2022.

Kegode was at his neighbours house when he met Tianda.

The two knew each other as they had been workmates and Kegonde is said to have extended a loan of Sh300 to Tianda.

He asked Tianda to pay the debt but instead, Tianda became violent and allegedly started a fight.

The suspect is said to have wrestled the complainant to the ground and beat him thoroughly before neighbours heard the commotion and intervened to rescue Kegode.

In court, Tianda denied the charges and told Senior Resident Magistrate Charles Mwaniki Kamau that Kegonde is his friend but was cut short to await a hearing where he will explain himself.

He was released on a surety bond of Sh50, 000 and an alternative cash bail of Sh20, 000.

The case will be mentioned on June 30.
