Man who bragged about sex with minor denies charges, released on bond

A suspect who bragged on his Facebook page about having sex with a standard four girl was on Tuesday arraigned in a Sotik court and charged with promoting sexual offenses with a minor.

The suspect, Calvin Mbane Alfayo alias Mohammed Alfayo,  faces two counts under section 12 (a) of the Sexual offenses Act No. 3 of 2006.

The charge sheet stated that on October 3, 2016 at Chebilat trading centre, within Bomet County, he distributed photographs and articles which promoted or were intended to promote sexual offences with a child.

DENIED CHARGES

Mr Alfayo appeared before Sotik Senior Resident Magistrate Bernard Omwansa and denied the charges.

The accused had appeared in court last week on Wednesday but was not required to take plea as investigations into the matter were still ongoing.

When he was arraigned on Tuesday, the magistrate released him on a bond of Sh100, 000 and surety of similar amount.

The case was fixed for hearing on November 21 but will be mentioned on October 25.

Meanwhile, the man’s father, an MCA in Nyamira county, has said the matter was political and aimed at soiling his name ahead of the next elections.

POLITICAL ENEMIES

Mr Alfayo Mabera Ngeresa, the MCA of Mekenene ward, made an address at the County Assembly where he claimed his son’s Facebook had been hacked “by my political enemies to portray me as unfit leader.”

He challenged parents or relatives of the alleged Standard Four girl to come forward and assist the investigators pursuing the matter.

The assembly’s Deputy Speaker Mr Andrew Magangi who was on the chair, however, did not allow other Assembly members to contribute over the matter, saying it was ongoing in court.
