Manhunt for gang that mugged reporters on live TV
Police in South Africa are looking for a group of men who mugged SABC reporters on live television, in a bizarre incident that underlines the country’s crime problem.
Police have circulated images from the recorded TV footage but the robbers are still on the run.
SABC’s contributing editor, Vuyo Mvoko, and camera crew, was approached by a group of men who robbed him of valuables live on air.
The incident, which was caught on camera, shows at least three men walking towards Mvoko as he’s standing in front of the Milpark hospital in Johannesburg.
Mvoko was reporting on the scene awaiting Zambian president Edgar Lungu’s arrival who was scheduled for surgery at the hospital.
But as he was preparing to give info on the story, the men suddenly pushed Mvoko, demanding they give him valuable belongings.
They also took items from the crew, and a woman could clearly be heard screaming in the background.
Mvoko then shouts “hey! we are being mugged, we are being mugged, yes” before the news anchor moves on to another news item.
