Man’s body found near explosive device

Police are investigating an incident where a body was found alongside an explosive device in a car in Shaurimoyo early Friday morning.

The body of a middle aged man purportedly to be of Somali origin had fresh bullet wounds and was at the rear seat of the vehicle.

Nairobi County Deputy Police Commandant, Moses Ombati said the car was spotted by members of the public as its occupants kept stopping suspiciously. They reported the incident to the Shaurimoyo Police post.

“Police pursued the vehicle and when its occupants saw the police vehicle, they escaped on foot and boarded a motorcycle, leaving the vehicle which had deflated tyres near the Shaurimoyo Shopping Centre” Mr Ombati said,

“When the police searched the car, they found the body with several fresh bullet wounds in the car with registration number; KBS 965E” He said.

The unidentified body was taken to the City Mortuary as police investigate whether the incident is connected to a shooting incidence at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport a few minutes past midnight.

In the incident, security officers were forced to shoot at a car after the driver failed to stop as per their order at the main exit from the airport. The car sped off.

Earlier, shortly before midnight, a loud bang was heard at the airport in the Java Coffee Shop. Inspector General of Police David Kimaiyo said the blast was caused by a light bulb that fell on papers at the coffee shop.

The recovery of a Java Cofee cup from the vehicle in Shaurimoyo sent the police to suspicion that the two incidences might be related.
