Maria TV actor Robert Budi in dramatic arrest over child-molestation case
There was drama outside the Milimani Law Courts in Nairobi on November 29, 2023, when police arrested a celebrity and his wife over a child molestation incident.
The incident reportedly occurred at the Karen Plains estate in Lang’ata.
In a twist of events, the well-built Robert Budi, a bodybuilder, actor and media personality, shook off the police officers who advanced towards him to effect an arrest for violating the child’s rights.
Budi was arrested together with his wife Wendy Kimingi, outside the High Court.
They are set to be charged at the Kibera Law Courts.
Police eventually overpowered Budi and handcuffed him before escorting him to Karen Police Station where he was detained awaiting arraignment in court.
Budi, donning a white T-shirt, a green pair of trousers, and a white canvas pair of shoes, covered his face, supposedly in shame, as he was escorted outside the court premises.
The dramatic arrest occurred soon after Budi and Wendy left the court premises where they had attended a court case.
However, Nairobi News has learnt that officers attached to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) were on the trail of the couple over this case.
The duo is facing charges of being cruel to a child contrary to Section 25 of the Children Act number 29 of 2022.
Police say the incidents reportedly happened between October 22, 2022 and February 10, 2023 within Karen Plains in Lang’ata sub-county in Nairobi.
The accused are expected in court on November 30, 2023.
Budi has crowned the 2018 Mr Kenya at a colourful gala event held at The Mall in Westlands, Nairobi.
Besides his exploits as a bodybuilder, Budi is also a renowned TV host and actor. He played the rol of Trevor on Citizen TV’s soap opera dubbed Maria.
