Mariga denies transfer links to South Africa

Kenya international midfielder MacDonald Mariga says he is “in the dark” regarding a possible transfer move to the South Africa Premier Soccer League (PSL).

The Parma midfielder has struggled for game time since making his return to the Ennio Stadio Tardini at the start of the current European football season, and has managed only 37 minutes on the pitch after 14 rounds of Serie A league matches.

These stats have fuelled speculation that the Crociati (Crusaders) may be open to offers for the 27 year old, with South African club Kaizer Chiefs on a short-term deal, according to South African website Soccer Laduma.

REGAIN FITNESS

The former Inter Milan and Real Socieadad midfielder has however refuted the claims.

“Nobody has discussed such an offer with me, I am in the dark (about moving to South Africa) and as explained to you earlier, my main focus at the moment is to regain fitness and break into the first team,” Mariga said.

Laduma reported that the Amakhosi were banking on Mariga’s previous relationship with current club coach Stuart Baxter in the hope of luring the player to the FNB Stadium.

But the deal fell through because of the player’s “incredibly high wages” which are in the region of Sh 10 million a month.
