Mariga rendered clubless as Parma folds
Kenya international midfielder MacDonald Mariga will be forced to shop for a new club in the June transfer window after his Serie A side Parma was dissolved on Sunday.
The development may keep Mariga out of competitive football for at least six months before the 2015 European summer transfer window opens in July.
According to Sportsmole, a British newspaper, Parma have been dissolved after confirming to Serie A that they will not be able to fulfill their duties this season.
The club has been on the financial red for a number of years, but it recently became clear that the problems had reached a new level, with players confirming that they had not been paid their wages this season.
It was revealed that they had been forced to call off Sunday’s meeting with Udinese as the club is unable to pay for stewarding costs.
PERMANENT DEAL
As a result, all their remaining matches would count as 3-0 wins to the opposition, and it remains unclear whether the club will be saved by new investors in the future after ownership changed hands twice in the previous two months.
Mariga, first joined Parma on loan in August 2007 from Swedish side Helsingborg before making the move permanent in the summer of the same year for around Sh208 million in a four-year deal.
However, on February 01, 2010 – the last day of the transfer window – Mariga moved to Inter Milan then coached by current Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho helping the Nerrazzurri sweep a treble that season (including the Uefa Champions League trophy).
However, he spent the better part of the following season on the sidelines before being loaned to Spanish La Liga side Real Sociedad and later Parma where he re-signed a permanent deal on September 4, 2014 after close to 18 month without playing competitive football.
