Masaku 7’s signs broadcast deal with Zuku


Masaku Sevens Rugby will for the first time this year be televised live after pay-tv Zuku signed a deal with the tournament’s organizers at Machakos Stadium.

The undisclosed deal will see Zuku broadcast all matches for the two day main event.

The winners prize has been increased from Sh500, 000 to Sh2 million.

The tournament is slated for 3rd to 5th July and has attracted eight international teams from Norway, Scotland, Spain, France, Argentina, Ireland and Fiji.

The eight teams expected to jet in the country for the tournament include Oslo rugby and Tabasuro ladies team from Norway, Bera Bera from Spain, the French Barbarians, Argentina’s Puerreydon, Boyne from Ireland, Uprising from Fiji and Scotland’s Edinburgh.

Matches for emerging teams will be held on 27th and 28th and will pave way for primary schools action on June 30th.

Secondary schools will face off on July 1st, colleges on 2nd, with the main event held on 3rd to 5th.

Masaku Sevens tournament director and former national sevens coach Benjamin Ayimba has welcomed the new deal terming it a great stride in development of game.

‘’ The sponsorship is a big step by Zuku in improvement of the game and this will be a great event,” said Ayimba.
