Honest matatu conductor’s wife rewarded with free maternity package
The wife to Nairobi’s most honest matatu conductor will deliver free of charge at the Nairobi Hospital.
Mrs Daniel Mwaura was on Friday given a free maternity package that will have options for a normal, assisted or caesarian section delivery.
The gift came after her husband’s honest act of returning Sh30, 000 to a customer, Stanley Kaberi, who misplaced his wallet inside a Ganaki Sacco Nairobi bound matatu, was highlighted by Nairobi News.
Mwaura’s act was hailed by many and some readers sent him appreciation in form of cash.
The Nairobi Hospital on Friday emailed Nairobi News offering a free maternity package to Mwaura’s wife that ordinarily costs Sh40,000 for antenatal, Sh80,000 for a normal delivery, Sh100,000 for an assisted delivery and Sh160,000 for a Caesarean section.
Mwaura said the free delivery package will see him save the amount he had set aside for the birth of his second child.

“I’m very excited as I had an NHIF Card and had started saving up in case we are required to top up any cash. We had however not booked for delivery at the St Teresa Kikuyu Hospital where my wife has been attending clinics,” Mwaura told Nairobi News.
Mrs Mwaura also joined her husband in the excitement saying news of how her husband returned a customer’s money has been overwhelming.
“I am so happy that I can’t explain how much this gift means to us. I remember when I was informed by my friend that my husband was trending, I read the story and asked him how comes he returned the money when we have a baby coming. I have always known him to be an honest man but returning such a huge amount of money surprised me,” Mrs Mwaura told Nairobi News.
“He had told me that he had found a customer’s wallet with some money but he never told me how much it was until the story started trending. I remember he told me that even if he had brought me the Sh30, 000 it would not meet all our needs. He also told me not to worry as he would work hard as always and the expenses of the baby that is coming would be taken care of,” she added.
Mrs Mwaura is currently 34 weeks pregnant and is expected to attend a pre-natal clinic at Nairobi Hospital ahead of her delivery in June.
