Matiang’i declares ‘Moi Day’ a public holiday, but it could be the last one

Interior Secretary Fred Matiang’i has gazetted Wednesday October 10 as a public holiday.

High Court Judge George Odunga had in November 2017 affirmed that the October 10 remains a public holiday to be observed as such.

“Going by this decision therefore 10th of October shall be a public holiday,” Dr Matiang’i said in a statement on Monday.

He however indicated that the ministry will soon make proposals to Parliament for a review of the Public Holidays Act.

“The review will address all outstanding matters with respect to public holidays and embrace the spirit of the Constitution on how our heroes will be celebrated,” he said.
