Matuga MP: Why I quit MRC

By KNA January 12th, 2015 1 min read

Matuga MP Hassan Mwanyoha has sensationally confessed to being one of the founding members of the outlawed Mombasa Republican Council (MRC).

Mr Mwanyoha, however, says he later quit after noting that the movement’s agenda could not be achieved because it was in conflict with the government security agents.

“I was among the members who launched the group aiming at having coastal region becoming independent and a republic of its own and I served as the Secretary General,” said Mr Mwanyoha.

Addressing a public gathering at Baraza Park in Kwale at the weekend, Mr Mwanyoha said he quit after realizing they could not fight with the government using “pangas (machetes) and knives” while the security personnel are well equipped with fire arms.

“We cannot continue fighting using inferior weapons while our enemies have guns. We will be in trouble and they will finish us before we achieve our a gender,” said Mwanyoha

He said he quit the group after some undesirable characters registered themselves as members of the group and were not following his instructions.

He urged those who are still members of MRC to quit and engage in income generating activities which will help them improve their living standards rather than wasting their time in the outlawed group.

Mr Mwanyoha also dismissed claims that some youths groups were denied allocation of ‘Uwezo Fund’ because some of their members are known to have been members of MRC members.

He said the Fund will benefit all youths.
