Maurice Osundwa outlines reforms vision ahead of Auctioneers poll

National Auctioneers of Kenya Association (NAKA) chairmanship aspirant Maurice Osundwa has unveiled a raft of policy changes he intends to implement when he takes over the reins.

NAKA polls are set for December 1, 2023, and Osundwa who is seeking to replace Dennis Kirui is vouching for, among other factors, a tech savvy institution consisting the required experts.

He says he is keen to brand the industry, whose actions consistently lead to confrontations with the public, into an organization whose services will be appreciated, enabler of job creation, and aid in building the economy.

“In line with the conversation of digitisation of our data and development on a software on SACCO solution,” he told Nairobi News in an exclusive interview.

“We will put up an online library of all decided cases on Auctioneers. We have amongst our membership software engineers and propose to co-opt then into the office as persons with special competencies required to transform NAKA.”

He added: “Amongst ourselves we have members with banking background, we shall co-opt one to assist us in setting up the SACCO framework”.

A marketing consultant, Osundwa has implored on aspirants to seek votes in a peaceful and professional environment.

“I humbly appeal to all aspirants to embrace each other with the willingness to work for the fraternity top on the agenda. I know each one of us is desirous to lead the association. But there can only be one chair at any given time,” he said.

“I will continue to engage the mainstream media in a bid to rebrand auctioneering to a positive and attractive professional that contributes to the success of banks and other financial institutions, that ensures justice to aggrieved parties.”

Osundwa, attached to Mamuka Auctioneers, adds that he will be at the forefront of establishing a resource centre that will aid in opening opportunities into publishing of books and journals for training of future generations.

“I foresee opportunities in teaching of Auctioneer courses in our universities, having published books will earn the fraternity money now and in retirement.”

An auctioneer is a person who manages a public sale at which people can bid on items.

It’s the job of an auctioneer to organize the goods for sale at an auction, as well as to oversee the bidding, often encouraging bidders to compete with each other to drive the price up.

Osundwa is considered favourite in the race for the chairmanship position that pits him against Paul Barasa, Titus Musya, and Conrad Budo after Humphrey Okuku, Darious Kimwele, Kenneth Ojuro and George Kimetto stepped down and promised to back him.

In the same poll, Darius Kimwele and Judith Chepkosgei are gunning for the secretary position.

Other aspirants are Lonny Wambui, Humphrey Okuku, Kenneth Ojuro, George Kimetto, George Omiti and James Kirugi.
