Socialite Vera Sidika’s famous ex-best friend, Maxwell Mwamburi came under fire for stealing other people’s work and posting them as his own to promote his cake-baking business.

It all began when Mwamburi’s customer exposed him to tea master Edgar Obare for producing a badly designed cake compared to what he posted on his Instagram account, Maxwell’s Cakes.

From there, things went south for Mwamburi as another curious potential client revealed that they scrolled through the business’ page and found that Mwamburi was posting photos of other people’s work and claiming them as his own; and proceeding to charge exorbitantly.

His theft became fodder for criticism and bashing on Obare’s premium tea page on Telegram.

A spot check by Nairobi News on two of his random cake posts revealed that he had indeed stolen them from other bakers and claimed the works as his own.

We ran the images through Google Lens and discovered that indeed, he was being genuinely accused of plagiarizing other people’s work.

The first photo we ran is of a brown and white nude cake topped with flowers and decorated with dripping caramel that Mwamburi posted on May 19, 2022.

Nairobi News found that the photo of the cake had been lifted from an American bridal website belonging to Chic Vintage Brides.

Another photo that Mwamburi also posted and Nairobi News investigated was the macaroons he posted on May 10, 2022. We found that the photo had been lifted unedited from the website belonging to Jaime Les Macarons.

A spot check by Nairobi News of the prices Mwamburi charged for cakes included prices reaching as high as Sh 45,000.

Braggadocio, Mwamburi went on a fake tea unloading phase where he claimed to have tea on Kenyan celebs only to talk about the famous people he had baked cakes for including media personality Betty Kyallo and stylist Phoina.

He advertises that he sells cakes for all occasions including weddings, birthdays and graduations- but at this point, with his lying, it remains unknown if he can reproduce what he posts as part of his luxurious cake-baking services.
