MCA files motion to rename Limuru road after Wangari Maathai
A member of the Nairobi City County Assembly wants Limuru road renamed to Wangari Mathai road.
Karura MCA Kamau Thuo filed a notice of motion at the county assembly seeking to rename the road as a tribute to the nobel prize winning-environmentalist who campaigned for the preservation of the Karura forest.
Limuru road cuts through section of Karura forest.
The motion will go through the first reading next week.
“The country has since independence named and renamed roads to honour heroes and heroines who have contributed immensely to the development of the country as a show of honour and gratitude,”said Mr Thuo.
Other roads in Nairobi whose names have been changed before include Sadler street which was renamed to Koinage street, Lord Delamere avenue renamed to Kenyatta Avenue and Government Road renamed to Moi Avenue.
