Meet independent candidate who threatens to trample Kidero, Sonko

An independent candidate for the Nairobi gubernatorial seat Godfrey Wanyoike says he is the elephant who will foil the so-called two horse race.

Mr Wanyoike is among seven candidates cleared by the electoral commission to vie for Nairobi’s top seat. He will faceoff with incumbent Dr Evans Kidero, Senator Mike Sonko, Peter Kenneth (Independent), Michael Mutinda (Agano Party), Macharia Kamau (Party of Democratic Unity) and Miguna Miguna (Independent).

Mr Wanyoike told Nairobi News that the notion of a two horse race between Dr Kidero and Senator Sonko is a creation of the media meant to lock out other candidates.

“Forget about the horses, I am the elephant that will take Nairobi to the promised land. And the notion that it is a two person race is just a media creation,” said Mr Wanyoike.

EMPTY PROMISES

He hit out at both Dr Kidero and Senator Sonko for giving Nairobians empty promises with nothing to show for their days in power.

His running mate Douglas Ebole said Senator Sonko is clueless of the functions of the county government.

“Clearly Mr Sonko does not even understand the roles of the county governor and his deputy, if he did he would not be saying he is the political face and his deputy is the technical person. The constitution has not given clear mandate to the deputy other than an aide to the governor’s” said Mr Ebole.

If elected, Mr Wanyoike will ensure free water to slums residents within the first 100 days .

He will also seal leakages in the revenue collection, fight corruption and eliminate cartels in the procurement department.
