Meet Nairobi matatu tout who prays for commuters -VIDEO

Duncan is not your ordinary matatu conductor, he takes time every morning to pray for commuters plying Nairobi’s route 33.

One of his commuters on Thursday morning posted a three minute clip of the conductor who momentarily takes a preacher’s role and urges commuters to be thanking God every morning.

Clad in Embassava Sacco uniform, he preaches for a while urging commuters to involve God in everything they do.

“I normally remember God each and every time sababu najua isipokuwa ni yeye singekuwa mahali nilipo asubuhi ya leo, na singekuwa pia na hii kazi. Hii kazi unajua inakuwa na changamoto mingi sana na tunaifanya tu kwa neema na Mungu akikuongoza hakuna mahali huwezi fanyia kazi sababu umeweka Mungu mbele (I know without God I wouldn’t be here this morning and I wouldn’t have this job. This job has many challenges and we only manage through God’s grace. If you put God first, there is nowhere you cant work),” says Duncan before introducing himself as a born again Christian.

INTERCESSION

Duncan’s prayer involves interceding for blessings in the lives of his commuters and thanking God for guiding them to board his vehicle. He even prays for healing for any of the commuters who may be sick.

Moments after he starts the prayer, the ride becomes bumpy and Duncan clutches to the matatu roof rod as he continues to pray.

In the end he bids the commuters farewell and wishes them a good day ahead.

The particular commuter who had recorded the clip on Wednesday captioned her video, “Unlike other touts who steal from passengers, Duncan route 33 always starts his journey with a word of prayer. Watch him pray for us yesterday. Good example to others indeed!”

This even as the city is grappling with rising cases of matatu crew being involved in cartels that drug and rob female passengers of their valuables.
