Mejja announces mega return after health ‘break’
Gengetone singer Mejja is back after taking a sabbatical from the music scene due to a throat infection.
Together with Nyashinski, Otile Brown, Nviiri the Storyteller, and Femi One, Mejja is expected to hit the stage at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) for the Mo Festival, a concert to celebrate African music and culture.
The ‘Kanairo Dating’ hitmaker told fans his time off stage was a journey of discovery.
“I have learned a lot through this process about patience, na pia who your real friends are. Tubaki hivo hivo,” he captioned a photo.
He said his doctor allowed him to continue singing but with caution.
Last year, Mejja cancelled one of his shows in Australia due to a loss of voice.
This year’s concert will also feature the legendary Senegalese musician Youssou N’Dour who will make a special guest appearance on stage.
Added to this will be performances from two of Kenya’s finest DJ’s – DJ Joe Mfalme and DJ Pierra Makena.
The Mo Festival will mark its return to the continent, following three years of disruption.
Mo Festival is taking place at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) in Nairobi on Saturday 29 April 2023, on the sidelines of the Ibrahim Governance Weekend (IGW).
The festival presents an opportunity to celebrate Africa’s music and culture at a time when its impact and influence is transcending the continent’s borders.
The Mo Festival is part of the Ibrahim Governance Weekend (IGW), which brings together prominent African political and business leaders, civil society, multilateral and regional institutions, and Africa’s major international partners, to debate the challenges and opportunities facing the continent in an ever–changing global environment over three days.
This year’s IGW will take place from 28–30 April. Advance tickets for the Mo Festival cost KES 1,000, with tickets available on the gate for KES 1,500.
