Midiwo: I was arrested in my boxers, assaulted and thrown into police cell

Former Gem MP Jakoyo Midiwo has narrated his harrowing ordeal at the hands of people he claims are five uniformed police officers who assaulted and arrested him while he was in his boxers.

The incident happened about two weeks ago in Kisumu.

Midiwo spoke on Tuesday on NTV’s AM Live show where he is a regular a guest panelist.

Kiambu Senator Kimani Wamatangi, his Kericho counterpart Aaron Cheruiyot, former Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale and MPs Eseli Simiyu and Otiende Amollo were also part of the show.

“I was woken up by my watchman at 2:13am. He was kicking on doors telling me ‘police are killing us. I came out in my boxers and I saw a probox and five police officers. They were beating up my driver as if they wanted to kill him. A friend of mine called Omondi who stays with me came out and one of the officers started chasing him,” Midiwo narrated.

“One of the officers, a lady, was telling me that her colleagues were very drank. But before I knew it they had grabbed my neck,” Midiwo narrated.

In the scuffle Midiwo slapped his assailant’s underbelly and manged to free himself.

“They drove me to the police station as they kept slapping me. They locked me up in the cell for three hours. I was released after senior police officers intervened. I am told some of those officers were off duty at the time they attacked me in my home. It turns out they were trying to arrest my driver after they found him going to buy some medicine at a nearby shop,” he said.

Kisumu County Police Commander Ranson Lolmpodooni has since confirmed that four of these police officers have since been arrested on suspicion of assaulting Midiwo.
