Miguna seeks to dethrone Raila Odinga in Luo Nyanza

By Wangu Kanuri November 12th, 2022 1 min read

Miguna Miguna appears to be positioning himself as a possible successor to Raila Odinga in Luo Nyanza.

In a social media post, the controversial lawyer suggested he’s been receiving support from Kenyans who describe him as fearless and steadfast.

“Everywhere I go, Kenyans from all walks of life tell me: ‘Thanks for being fearless and steadfast and for fighting gallantly against the impunity merchants. The despotic brothers have plundered the country to death. We hope you will keep fighting for the looters to be punished!”

He added: “Earlier today, as I strolled around Hurlingham, Nairobi, a group of Luos mobbed me saying: “Jatelo! You are now the one we are putting our hopes on. Jakom’s journey’s has come to an end!” The support and solidarity from all Kenyans have been humbling and overwhelming!”

Miguna recently returned to Kenya after four years in exile occasioned by a fallout with former president Uhuru Kenyatta’s regime.

He has in the recent past said he will provide ‘directions’ for his Luo community.

The Luo community has offered unwavering support to Odinga, a seasoned politician, for the better part of the last four decades.

But Odinga is now 78 and has unsuccessfully contested for the presidency on five occasions dating back to 1997.

This opens the door for the likes of Miguna to lead the community so to speak but he will for sure expect competition from several ambitious politicians including Babu Owino, governors James Orengo and Anyang Nyong’o.
