Mike Sonko’s adopted son Gift Osinya celebrates 22nd birthday
Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko is celebrating the 22nd birthday of his adopted son, Gift Osinya.
In a heartwarming message on social media, Sonko expressed his immense pride as he disclosed that Gift, whom he had rescued from a tragic incident a decade ago, has made remarkable strides in his education.
Gift is currently a second-year student at Scott’s Christian University.
Reminiscing the incident of a decade ago, Sonko recalled the doubts and criticism he faced regarding his intentions to adopt Gift and his younger brother, Satrin Osinya.

In his message directly addressed to Gift, Sonko wrote: “You have grown at an astonishing pace and now find yourself as a second-year student at Scott’s Christian University. However, a decade ago, a significant number of my critics cast doubt on my intentions when it came to you and your younger brother, Baby Satrin.”
“It was during that horrific incident where you bravely rescued Baby Satrin from the hail of bullets fired by al-Shabaab terrorists, which claimed the life of your late mother,” Sonko’s message further read.
Sonko concluded his heartfelt message with a prayer, calling upon the divine intervention and blessings of God who had miraculously saved Gift’s life and that of his younger brother.

In May, 2021, Sonko also celebrated Gift’s good performance in KCSE.
“After scoring an impressive 399 marks in KCPE four years ago, he proceeded to Lenana School in Nairobi for his secondary education where he has made us proud again by scoring an impressive B – (minus) in his KCSE,” Sonko wrote then.
Gift and Satrin tragically lost their mother in a hail of bullets in January 2014 during an attack on a church in Likoni by suspected Al-Shabaab militants.
During the attack, Baby Satrin was left with a bullet lodged in his head but he miraculously survived a delicate operation to remove the bullet and thereafter made a remarkable recovery. It is then that Sonko adopted Baby Satrin and his brother Gift.
