Ministers now tussle over Lang’ata land cleanup

The Lang’ata Road Primary School playground saga has got three cabinet secretaries speaking at odds and working at cross purposes.

Interior Secretary Joseph Nkaissery had on Tuesday directed the private developer to “bring down the wall within 24 hours” and bear the cost of clearing the debris.

But his Devolution counterpart Anne Waiguru deployed the National Youth Service (NYS) to the playground early Wednesday morning, citing a separate directive by President Uhuru Kenyatta.

“H.E @UKenyatta has directed MoDP to deploy NYS to restore Langata PSch Playground back to the school #occupyplayground,” Ms Waiguru tweeted.

Mrs Ngilu joined in over-riding Mr Nkaissery’s order, saying she will oversee the work by NYS at the playground.

“This morning, I’m joined by a team from NYS and surveyors at Lang’ata road primary school to give back our children their playground,” Mrs Ngilu tweeted

“I will personally supervise the exercise. We will clean the playground and ensure it is safe for our children to play on.”
