Ministry of Health probing claims of ‘Jakadala’ outbreak

Ministry of Health has downplayed fears over an outbreak of a mysterious sexual transmitted infection in Migori County, that is referred to by locals as ‘Jakadala’ .

Horrific video clips and pictures of alleged victims of the STI have been doing rounds on social media and has raised panic over the possibility of its spread across the country.

The victims in the trending photos and clips appear to be in pain and have sores on their genitals.

Director of Medical Service Dr Jackson Kioko has dispatched a team of disease surveillance experts to Migori County to go investigate the nature of the mysterious disease.

“That story is just an individual person and there is a team which has gone to find out the truth whether it’s a medical problem; and if it is a medical problem to take the patient to hospital for screening because we cannot tell from the look if someone has an STI,” Director of Medical Service Dr Jackson Kioko told K24 TV.

Reports of the disease emerged after a man who had accompanied a music band to Uganda returned and developed lacerations on his genitals.
