Minor among suspected gangsters arrested in Nairobi with homemade guns


Police in Nairobi have arrested six suspected gangsters linked to several robberies in the city. During the arrest, two homemade firearms, a bolt cutter and one round of ammunition were also recovered from the suspects.

According to a police report, the suspects were arrested by officers who were acting on a tip-off from members of the public. The six were arrested in a house belonging to Mr Samson Wambugu in Fuata Nyayo slums, Makadara constituency.

Mr Wambugu is so far considered as the main suspect and in charge of the gang. The other suspects were identified as David Irungu, 20, Calid Juma, 17, Collins Macharia Kimani, 18, David Kamau, 20, Dennis Muthiani, 19.

This comes barely a day after police in Kabete, Nairobi County launched a manhunt for three suspected robbers who recently robbed an M-Pesa attendant at Kabete market as she was heading to work.

“She was accosted by three men on a motorcycle while armed with a pistol and ordered her to surrender her bag which she obliged. The bag had three mobile phones for M-Pesa and Equity and Airtel agencies and Sh24,000,” a report filed at Kabete Police Station reads in part.

Police officers on patrol noticed the commotion and rushed to the scene but the gangsters sped off towards Naivasha road in a motorbike whose number plate was concealed. In two other incidents in Karen, Nairobi County, two men were attacked and lost their valuables to armed robbers who were on a motorbike.
