Celebrities post mixed results at party primaries

Bloggers, musicians and other media personalities appear to be putting up impressive performances on the political front, if results of the recent primaries are anything to considered.

These include Robert Alai, Phelix Odiwour, alias Jalang’o and Kelvin Mathenge aka Bahati.

Alai, a popular blogger known for his deep sources in government and controversial tweets, bagged the Kileleshwa ward ODM ticket following a narrow win.

He scooped 638 votes against his closest Junior Tollo who got 545 votes.

Victoria Angani was third with 130 votes and Perpetua Okello bagged 364 votes.

Ex-radio presenter Phelix Odiwour, popularly known as Jalang’o in media circles, also bagged a win in the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) nominations for Lang’ata parliamentary seat.

He garnered 3,509 votes against his competitor Oscar Omoke who got 1,612 votes.

Musician Kelvin Kioko, aka Bahati, also celebrated after he was handed a ticket to vie for the Mathare parliamentary seat on a Jubilee ticket.

These candidates still have some work to do ahead of the August 2022 polls.

But not all media personalities were as lucky.

Musician Charles Njagua aka Jaguar was denied the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) nomination for Starehe constituency. So was comedian Jasper Muthomi alias MC Jessy who now claims Deputy President William Ruto misled him and is now set to vie as an Independent candidate.

Renowned Gikuyu vernacular presenter Njogu Wa Njoroge also lost his quest to become Njoro MP in the UDA primaries despite earlier claiming he’d been victimised at work for piblicly showing his support for Ruto.
