A South African man was saved  certain death when his mobile phone literally took the bullet that was aimed at him, Chinese news outlet Xhinua has reported.

41-year-old Siraaj Abraham was ambushed by a pair of masked raiders early this month when the South African businessman was pulling into his driveway outside his house in Cape Town. During the fracas, one of the robbers shot Abraham in the chest from a distance of about two meters. Thankfully, his Huawei P8 Lite unit, stored in his front pocket, took a 9mm bullet and ultimately saved the man’s life.

It was reported that Abraham’s heart had briefly stopped for a few seconds after the shot was fired. He was rushed to hospital after his 16-year-old daughter found him lying on the driveway outside his car.Police are investigating the incident, saying that the two suspects are still at large.
The Huawei smartphone does not have a metal body, but its plastic build managed to stop a bullet from a two-meter distance. Images show the bullet hit the back panel of the handset and stopped before it could penetrate the front panel. The smartphone is not functional anymore but Huawei presented Abraham with a brand new Huawei P9 Lite to replace his damaged phone.

Huawei also invited the Abrahams to attend all of the home matches of the Ajax Cape Town soccer team as a VIP guest; the world’s third largest smartphone manufacturer is one of the sponsors of the team. Huawei are the team’s official shirt sponsor.
