Modern Coast apologises for over speeding bus, dismisses errant driver
Modern Coast Express have apologised to the public after one of their buses was filmed over speeding and overlapping at a known black spot.
The video, which was posted on social media on Saturday, shows the Meru-bound bus using the wrong lane at high speed.
But in a quick response, the company, through a Facebook post, admitted fault on the part of the driver of the bus in question, whom they said has been summarily dismissed and presented to the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) for cancellation of his licenses.
The latest development comes in the wake of increased accidents on Kenyan roads which are a common occurrence during the festive season.
On Wednesday last week several passengers narrowly escaped death after a Modern Coast Bus caught fire near Mtito Andei area on the Mombasa-Nairobi highway.
The passengers and crew members were evacuated from the bus which was on its way to Nairobi from Mombasa at the time of the incident.
On Friday four people died while more than 20 people were injured when a bus travelling from Nairobi to Mombasa plunged into a valley in Mazeras next to Bonje area in Kilifi.
WORST ACCIDENT
In another accident on Saturday morning, six people perished in a ghastly road accident at Kahoya near Timboroa trading centre along the Nakuru-Eldoret highway. Several others were injured in the Saturday morning accident that involved a matatu heading to Eldoret town and an empty fuel tanker travelling in the opposite direction.
By the worst road accident this year happened on December 10, 2016 along the Nairobi-Naivasha Highway when more than 40 people died and several other injured when a truck carrying inflammable substances rammed into several vehicles.
The increase in accidents have occurred inspite of warning from the police to motorists to be extra careful on the roads during the festive season.
