Modern Coast offers internship opportunities to rugby players

September 9th, 2016 2 min read

Mwamba Rugby Club players will be offered  internship and employment opportunities by Modern Coast transport as part of their enhanced partnership.

Jervis Sundays, Modern Coast’s communications manager, said that the internship and employment programme will form an integral part of the partnership between the bus company and Mwamba Rugby Club. “We know that Mwamba has young and ambitious players and we want to help them progress with their academic and career paths off the pitch. We will offer internship opportunities to those who are in still in colleges and universities. For those who have graduated, we shall try to absorb them in our company,” he said.

The club’s honorary president Alvas Onguru welcomed the new development saying that it will go a long way in helping the club retain and attract top talent in the country. “This initiative is timely and will help the club hold onto their best talent as we continue rebuilding for the upcoming season. In the recent past, we’ve lost players to other clubs as we could not match what was dangled to them,” he said.

“We’ve a fairly young squad compared to the other big teams in the league and we hope to keep them together and enable Kevin Wambua [head coach] develop a fairy solid team to not only contest for Kenya Cup but win it in  two or three season from now,” he added.

This was revealed during the handover of the club’s training kit branded by Modern Coast by Dennis Ambindi, marketing and events manager. The company, as part of their sponsorship, will provide training kit for the club during the National Sevens Series. The partnership will also extend to 2016/2017 Kenya Cup, Eric Shirley Shield and Enterprise Cup season.

Through the partnership, Modern Coast will give the club Sh3 million this season as well as provide a branded bus for transport during local tournaments and league matches for the 2016/2017 season.
