The Enactus Kenya helps nurture technological, business and innovative skills in college students. Over 4,500 students have gone through it’s programmes. This has been achieved through community projects, training and annual national and international competitions for the last 15 years.

Enactus Moi University  emerged the winners after their project dubbed “Waste for Wealth” was voted the best. The project  focused on using organic waste to make tables hence creating a source of income. The project also curbs increase of plastic and glass waste.

Enactus Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology came in second with their project “Save Food Save Life” which aims at reducing post-harvest losses through preservation of fruits and vegetables. Their clay coolers preserve food for up to 20 days. Their next project “Trash is Treasure” empowers the community members to improve their quality of life through selling of the recycled product.

Enactus Egerton University came in third place with their project “Green Life Farm Kenya” which connects farmers to the consumers in production, processing and storage. This project also analyses soil samples before the farming process begins to provide the right information about nutrients availability as well as advice on the kind of seeds to plant for food security in Njoro Kenya. The other project “Mazingira Waste Management” addresses environmental conservation through proper management of waste.

“This is a great opportunity for collaboration, sharing of knowledge between business leaders, academia and universities and foster innovation as well as excellence in community leadership. Our goal is to recruit more students from all over Kenya to grow their leadership skills and prepare them for future jobs,” said James Shikwati, Enactus Kenya Country Leader.

“We urge the corporates and the academia to join hands and give youth an opportunity to participate actively in offering solutions to challenges facing the country,” added Florence Suji, Enactus Kenya Advisory Board Chair.
