Four more suspects have been arrested in connection with a Sh 70 million electronic fraud targeting Kenyan Saccos.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Thursday said the arrest of the four brings to 13 the number of suspects who have so far been arrested.

The four have been identified as Leonard Ng’ang’a, Stephen Mathenge, Hiram Kiragu and Alex Mutuku and are set to be arraigned in court once police finish their investigations.

Several passports were recovered from the suspects, who the police believe have defrauded several Kenyan Saccos.

Among the Saccos which have fallen victim to the scam include Safaricom Sacco, Bamburi Sacco and Stima Sacco.

ELECTRONIC FRAUD

Officers are yet to reveal the charges to be preferred against the suspects, only confirming that the suspects were arrested for electronic fraud.

The arrest of Safaricom staff, interns and agents came barely days after the telco revealed in its 2018 sustainability report that it dismissed 43 employees in the year to March for fraud related incidents, a drop from the 52 in the previous year.
