Motorists’ anguish as fuel prices rise in November review
The Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) has announced the increase of fuel prices that will take effect from the Thursday to December 14th.
The price of petrol, diesel and kerosene increased by sh2.38, sh3.11 and sh2.99 per litre respectively.
Motorists in Nairobi will now pay Sh118.11 for a litre of super petrol and Sh112.83 for diesel, hitting pockets hard at a time when the cost of living is already going up due to a raft of tax changes enacted in September.
The cost of kerosene will be Sh111.83 per litre.
According to a statement by the ERC Director General of ERC Robert Oimeke, the changes in the prices have been as a consequence of an increase in the average landed cost of imported petrol, diesel and kerosene.
“In accordance with Legal Notice No.196 of 2010, the Energy (Petroleum Pricing) Regulations and the amendment thereof, ERC has calculated the maximum retail pump prices of petroleum products, which will be in force from 15th November to 14th December 2018,” said Mr Oimeke.
He added: “Changes in this month’s prices have been as a consequence of the average landed cost of imported Super Petrol increasing by 4.02% from US$ 729.04 per ton in September 2018 to US$ 758.34 per ton in October 2018.”
This comes a month after the fuel prices went down following president Uhuru Kenyatta directive to revise the VAT on petroleum products from 16 percent to 8 percent.
