Motorists condemn NTSA move on drivers licences
Motorists have condemned the move by the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) to ban use of police reports abstract for drivers who have lost their driving licenses.
The Motorists Association of Kenya (MAK) chairman Peter Murima says the unilateral decision will render motorists who are qualified and are in government certificate of competence registry denied their right to drive
“As an organization representing a sizeable number of registered Kenyan motorists, we are under instruction to hold brief for members to protest the latest move” he said.
He noted that police abstract which are used after filing reports of loss or defaced driving licenses assist drivers as they continue to await the government to process the duplicate licenses.
“The document helps police to identify drivers in the process since making duplicates licenses takes weeks or months to process. Drivers can’t wait for that long to resume duty,” Murima said.
He called upon NTSA to rescind the decision, which will make members suffer irreparably with the new decree. Two days ago, NTSA banned the use of police abstracts as substitute for lost driving license.
