MP: Government supplied unusable lotion to albinos
The Albino Society of Kenya has claimed that lotions bought for its members by the government could not be used as they were not consulted before procurement.
Most of the lotion meant to protect the members from sun burn is still lying uncollected in various health facilities.
The society’s chairperson and nominated ODM MP Isaac Mwaura has appealed to the government to consult the society before buying drugs to avoid losses.
”Since it is the wearer of the shoe who knows where it pinches, in future we would want our government to ensure at least one of us is incorporated in the procurement process of this lotion which most of our members depend on,” he said.
The official also decried the culture of abducting albinos and selling them to witch doctors.
”This culture should be fought from all corners since this belief that our body parts contain certain valuables is untrue and inhuman,” he said.
Mwaura claimed that people in a neighbouring country were notorious for butchering Albinos and asked its government to bring the practice to an end .
”What most people do not understand and hence this sensitization seminar is that Albinism is just like any other disability and I wonder why we are the only ones targeted though no human being should be sacrificed for such satanic rituals,” the official said.
