Photos of a Member of Parliament from the opposition choking in a thick cloud of teargas inside his vehicle during Friday’s street protests in Nairobi have gone viral on social media.

Caleb Amisi, who was elected the MP of Saboti constituency during the August 8 general election on a Nasa ticket, found himself literary in the thick of things after a teargas canister smashed the rear window of his car and exploded inside, almost turning the vehicle into a smoke-filled deathtrap.

The legislator had accompanied other Nasa leaders in leading anti-IEBC demos in in the city centre on Friday afternoon.

The dramatic photos captured the moment when incident happened with the MP struggling to get out of the smoke-filled car.

The opposition supporters had defied an order by the acting Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i banned anti-IEBC demonstrations in the central business districts of Nairobi, Mombasa and Kisumu cities.

Two people were shot dead in Bondo town while seven others sustained various injuries in Kisumu, Homa Bay and Migori in what turned into a day of violent protests in Nasa strongholds across the country.
