MP wants Duale taken to ICC for incitement to genocide

The Leader of Minority in the National Assembly Francis Nyenze has petitioned the International Criminal Court (ICC) to open investigation against Garissa Township MP Aden Duale over what he termed as attempts to instigate genocide.

The Kitui West MP accused Mr Duale of inciting the expulsion of members of a certain community in his constituency after an audio clip linked to him surfaced online on Thursday.

“I appeal to the ICC to probe and prosecute Aden Duale for inciting ethnic cleansing especially at a time when the county is preparing for the general election,” Mr Nyenze told journalists in Kitui town on Friday.

The speaker in the undated audio clip is heard asking youths to bar members of a certain community from registering as voters and accessing poll stations .

Mr Duale has dismissed the clip as fake propaganda by his political detractors.

“We relate well with our brothers and sisters from Garissa who stay in the Lower Eastern region. They can also attest to the fact that they have never been challenged, prejudiced against or attacked by the natives,” said Mr Nyenze.

“It is therefore unfortunate for a leader of Duale’s stature to be quoted inciting Kenyans to violence. Such a serious threat to peace calls for immediate arrest and prosecution in court because nobody is above the law,” said Mr Nyenze.
