MP’s bodyguard shoots dead three robbers in Umoja shootout
The bodyguard of Manyatta MP John Muchiri shot dead three suspected robbers and recovered a pistol on Sunday night in Umoja.
Administration Police Constable Moses Mugo was on his way home with his friend Caroline Mwende when they were confronted by a gang of four men riding a motorcycle at around 11pm.
The gang ordered them to surrender their mobile phones and cash. They robbed Ms Mwende of her phone and Sh5, 000 before the officer drew his pistol and engaged them in a shootout.
He shot three of them dead while one of them escaped as he was firing at the officer.
BODYGUARD INJURED
During the incident Ms Mwende was injured on the left hand and was rushed to Mama Lucy Hospital for treatment.
Police officers who rushed to the scene after the shooting recovered 8 mobile phones, a bag, cash Sh3,950, pistol with one round of ammunition.
The motorcycle the gang was using, Ranger registration number KMDG 755V, was also left at the scene and taken to Buruburu police station as an exhibit.
The bodies were taken to the City mortuary awaiting postmortem and identification.
LURE VICTIMS
Police in Buruburu are also looking for a gang of two men and a woman who on Saturday night robbed a motorist of his car near Donholm roundabout.
The armed gang, believed to be behind robberies targeting taxi drivers and car hire firms, is said to be using the woman to lure their victims.
The middle aged woman would identify the victim and pose as a customer before the male colleagues join in. Though police have obtained the details of the suspect including the photo, they have not made it public.
