MP’s son handed death penalty for robbery

The son of a Kwale MP has been sentenced to death for robbery with violence.

Mafanikio Hassan Mwanyoha was charged alongside Ali Hussein with robbing a tourist of property valued at Sh14,625 on August 19 last year in Diani while armed with a knife.

On Wednesday, the family of Matuga MP Hassan Mwanyoha remained tight-lipped on the matter.

Mafanikio’s mother, who was not present in court during the ruling on Tuesday, declined to speak when contacted at the family’s home in Tiwi.

She referred journalists to the MP, who could not be reached on phone.

She said the family would only issue a statement once the MP arrived back home from Nairobi.

“I’m sad though I cannot tell you anything regarding this issue,” she said.

ROBBED TOURIST

Mwanyoha and Hussein were found guilty of violently robbing Mr Peter Schadwsky at Bougan Villa Estate in Msambweni Sub-County.

The prosecution said they took Mr Schadwsky’s bag, a mobile phone, a pair of spectacles, a company identity card and five credit cards.

Mwanyoha begged the magistrate to forgive him while his accomplice said the court should do its work.

The MP’s son was also charged with handling stolen property.

The two also face another robbery with violence case in Mombasa.

The case will be heard on May 30.
